Dr. Marjorie Gursky, Assistant Director, Religious School
Dr. Gursky has happily, recently joined our staff at Temple Beth David. She has taught religious school in local area schools for the last 10 years. Prior to teaching religious school, Margie was an adjunct professor of Biblical History at Hebrew Union College, Hunter College and C.W. Post University.
As a dedicated teacher, she loves educating children, sharing knowledge with them, giving them the freedom to explore, create and think. For Margie, thinking children are empowered children. Empowered to learn about Judaism and Israel, understand a new language, express themselves through prayer and become the mensches our society needs.
Margie is a strong proponent of regular communication with parents and is eagerly anticipating getting to know all the TBD children and families by name. Her door is always open and she welcomes parents and students to visit, email or call her to discuss any issues or help to promote ideas you may have that would benefit our school. She believes that your input is integral to TBD’s success.
She looks forward to working with Rabbi Klafter to continually enhance the educational program, always looking to reinforce the involvement of children, families as well as the congregation as a whole. Coming from more than a decade of teaching, Margie will provide a strong support system for our exceptional teaching staff. Because of her extensive experience working on archaeological digs in Israel as well as studying Hebrew in Israel, Margie is particularly dedicated to enriching the Hebrew curriculum and continuing to raise awareness of Israel and Jewish studies through innovated programming. At other schools, she helped to plan, coordinate and run fun and meaningful events for Yom Ha’aztmaut (Israel Independence Day) as well as a Jewish Candle-lighting workshop. In addition, she served as the Chairperson of the Holiday Food Committee for many years.
Margie has lived in Cold Spring Harbor for 18 years along with her husband and two teenage daughters.
Dr. Gursky holds a Ph.D. in Hebrew and Judaic Studies from New York University. She also received her B.A. in Economics from the University of Rochester. Margie stays current with new ideas by attending regular meetings through the Jewish Education Project.
